Why You Should Expect Less of Yourself

Do you constantly feel guilty for not getting everything done on your to do list?

I feel the same way!

When I was in this state last week, I thought, “I’m going to expect less of myself.”

Moving forward, instead of cramming my to do list and feeling overwhelmed by it, then guilty when it doesn’t all get done, I’m completely changing the way I write it.

I’m only adding three items per day.

Yep!

Because we’re constantly achieving more than what’s on our to do lists. Things come up, we forget our responsibilities beyond work, or we underestimate how long something will take to complete.

I’ve read that productivity experts recommend making a list of three “must do” items, three “should do” items, and three “would be nice to do” items.

Which is great too! But for me, seeing nine items on my list - even if some are aspirational - is like a personal challenge to get them done. And if I don’t, I feel bad.

By adding just three items to my list, I know I’m sure to achieve them.

And it gives me breathing room for any important tasks that pop up, or if my grandmother wants to go to lunch.

Can you reduce your daily to do list to just three items?

Psst! Make sure your big three aren’t that big. Something like designing a website should be divided into many smaller tasks. (i.e. Write about page copy.)

Not On Instagram?

While you’re expecting less of yourself, there is a way to also expect more.

Wait…what?!

I know, I know, a total paradox. In the video below, I’m sharing a productivity hack that will help you get more done in less time.
